This week, I have to decide if I’m going to stay “exclusive with Amazon” or reach out to other distributors. This is an interesting conundrum for me. On one hand, Amazon has provided over 95% of all my book sales. Even when — in the past — I wasn’t exclusive with them.
However, the other hand says that I’m about to release a new series. Yes, this new series is happening! I’m swamped with activity to get this new book out in Q1. But as such, do I put this new series exclusive to Amazon, or “go wide”, as they call it? I could mix-and-match, but I really want to see if Amazon can continue to bring in portions while I also put it out there on other platforms.
The issue is, when I remove it from exclusivity, I lose certain “bonus” features at Amazon. Those bonus features are very handy, and really do help my marketing.
While I decide, you guys get to reap the benefits. For the last week of this dilemma, I am using up the remainder of my “free days” while I have them. This will help my Amazon ranking right before I step off into “going wide.”
